Meat

Drawing inspiration from Jean-Baptiste-Siméon Chardin and other still life painters who painted meat, this oil on panel series reflects the way we see meat today as often always processed and packaged. I painted this Meat series using many layers, alternating between glazing and thickening layers to capture the realistic look of saran wrap plastic and price stickers clinging to packaged meat. I sought to challenge the traditional expectation of food still lifes as beautiful, appealing and fresh with my choice of packaged meat as the principal focus in this series.
